The most true thing people told me while I was pregnant (and many people told me many, many, many things) was that Momma loves baby from the minute she sees that little +; daddy loves baby from the minute he sees her. She has got him on a tight leash.
When I saw this little dress I knew I had to #1 find the fabric immediately and #2 make for February.
I found the fabric (in a different but similar colorway) at Quilted Castle — Urban Chiks Hullabaloo Zig Zag.
Anyway, I followed the directions exactly and was quite pleased with myself for not screwing up once. I made it in one night while CB was sleeping (and Nathan was watching Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy). You can imagine my disappointment when the “dress” fit more like a shirt when I tried it on her in the morning. Ugh.
Especially when my gut said, “Heath, that seems short, no?” And especially when I had like 9 inches of fabric leftover.
Lesson learned. Measure your own child and follow your gut before you cut.
1. Clara helping Nathan save a galaxy far, far away.
2. I did a “statement nail” (tute)
3. Cappuccino and an old camera. It weighs more than Clara. (jk. but almost.)
4. We’ve been reading/loving Pooh.
5. Working on this.
6. Adding to the gallery wall. “R” for Racansky. & Rome.
7. Practicing crawling.
8. But it really looks more like this.
9. Working on February’s dress. (You thought I gave up already, didn’t you.)
We started going to Storytime at the local library and CB is loving it. She makes this spitting-raspberry-squeal noise when she sees other babies (and also cats). I’m being friendly and smiling and ha-ha’ing with the other moms. Maybe I’ll make a mom-friend.
This is me 100% out of my comfort zone.
And now we all know why I don’t “fashion blog.”
Anyway — to justify my purchase of that pretty top (at 30% off, thanks Dear Baby) I am now obligated to show you my contest entry.
I’ve worn the top a few times already, but admittedly just with jeans and flats. I thought it would be fun to dress it up for a date night. I used the perfect red lip tutorial from The Beauty Department and it made a seriously huge difference (the color faded evenly throughout the night rather than needing constant babysitting).
I can now promise you that you’ll never again be subject to me awkwardly posing for pictures of myself in the nursery.
Nothing is more precious than baby skin and a baby head that smells like baby soap.
The drool is really her #1 accessory at the moment. That and Sophie, the $25 giraffe. But the accessory that she’ll keep long after all her teeth come in (and fall out, and come back); long after Sophie is lost somewhere — is her button.
I really hope that she grows up and loves her button and that she isn’t embarrassed to wear certain dresses because of it. I think it’s the most precious little birth mark. Sometimes I wish it was a real “turn this baby off” button. Not often, but sometimes.
We got snazzed up and made fancy dinner and had fondue for dessert. Also attempted a family pic while we were all cleaned up and probably should have thrown one more book on the stack I balanced the camera on but — what can you do.

Happy Valentines Day!
Everyone has their own take on how lame or amazing this holiday is and I think I can safely say I fall right in the middle. I honestly 99% forget it’s coming until it’s here — but when it finally is I do like to get a little dolled up, cook a nice dinner, and even dessert with candles. We actually sit at the dining room table (normal dinner is on the couch with Jeopardy. Horrible, I know. But we don’t have an eat-in kitchen).
But now all I can think about is how last year, on this very day, I was sitting in a conference room with some new hires at my old job and I felt the very first swoooosh in my belly.

She’s almost got the right idea…
1. CB’s first subway ride.
2. Learning about the Empire State Building.
3. 80 floors & counting.
4. On top of the worllllld!
5. Loving the view.
6. All the ladies.
7. Lunch.
8. Girls night & wine.
9. Hangin’ w/Auntie Amy.
10. Funny faces w/Uncle Joey.
We spent our weekend in NYC visiting with girlfriends, doing tourist-y things, and having sleepovers. Clara made friends with everyone she met. We made bignets and had cappuccinos drank a lot of wine (the grown ups, obviously).
I also got a $115 parking ticket. Nice.
